For most, life was good. Some were working hard and making lots of money. Others, just working, making money and enjoying the moment. The bottom line is that, since the last depression, and taking it back further, 9-11, things were at least getting back to normal. Then came COVID-19… The curse of the century…as far as we know anyway. The Pandemic to ruin as things known as normal living.
No one expected this to happen. Not now. There were no warnings. Where were the warning signs? In house cover ups? A conspiracy theory in the making? The truth is not told. It was too late when the ugly truth came out… Not the hows and whys, but the devastation… Illnesses and death. The world was brought to it’s knees.
Never in out lifetime has anyone seen this. We’ve seen films. We’ve seen documentaries, but not this true to life disaster. We encountered hurricanes and other storms that led to city shut down, but not on this worldly magnitude. The whole world on alert? This resembles a World War not some airborne disease..
I started out on the above since I’m blogging on some self help and motivation today. I just decided on that topic about a week ago but not started writing until one day ago. It is about “The Little Things“.
Getting things done quickly without putting in some work is the norm. People are too busy in their minds. Some has “big” bills to pay…”big” dreams to fill..everything is all about making it “big”. No need for the little things. I compare this to investing in the stock market where putting your money in large growth stocks over penny stocks. Playing the lotto when there is a large pool over smaller pools. Chasing the jobs that pays the most money, even if relocating is an option. Getting involved in get rich quick schemes to make lots of immediate money. The lists goes one.
The reasons are right in our faces why folks cannot wait to make it big immediately. The uncertain events in our lives. Wars. Rumors of war. Pandemics. Depression and inflation. Jobs uncertainty.
The little things
Since the pandemic, I was able to see how our everyday lives were changed. The city was basically shut down. Restaurants, the theatres, shops, transportation were out or running infrequently. Basic things like food shelter and clothing were of utmost importance. I’ve seen the lines with people from all walks of life were joining in for free food giveaways. The food banks were operating at a higher capacity than normal. Even some restaurants and private organizations were participating in this project of giving free food to those in need. This was indeed a “riches to rag” episode in most our lives. This is a city where people were making lots of money.
Discount stores were doing great. Delivery services were doing great. Streaming networks and face time services were doing great. Not so with the vast majority of people living here in the city. No jobs. Limited work spaces led to layoffs and the jobless. The little things in life now becomes a big problem.
Our basic needs of food, clothing and shelter is now put on test. These are the basics that comes with our basic way of life. The Bible told us not to worry about these things; But, most take all this for granted. Food wasted. Clothing becomes a sport whereat some are using their meagre wages just to get high end wear. Clothing chains are making money, tons of money because of that. Our homes are abused. Some homes are used for hangouts and neglect. And as I said earlier, food waste. Now since the pandemic all these basic needs are put on test. These are the little things we take for granted in a boom. Now the boom becomes a bust. Now what? Are our eyes wide open? Is it open temporary to this disaster to remain close afterwards. Things are slowly getting back to normal so we shall see.
I appreciate the little things in life. Even a penny has it’s significant. Yes, a penny. It’s here for a reason, if not, it would’ve been gone for years. Banks are here for a reason. Stocks, bonds and every other equity known to man are here for a reason, if not, they would’ve been gone for years. Online businesses are a new normal since all of a sudden most find the need to work from home for a living. The little things, unappreciated, will bring disaster for those aspiring for BIGGER things. The smaller things appreciated will bring forth abundance for those seeking greater. I call this working from scratch where you always start from zero. Zero is only a numerical figure. Let’s say we start from little.
The wake up call
